LABC Building Excellence Awards

LABC awards

These prestigious awards are hosted annually by Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and are intended to promote excellence in building design and construction.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards website boasts that the ‘Local, regional and national award ceremonies are held throughout the year with categories incorporating every class of building…..from domestic extensions, social housing, apartments, schools, hospitals, commercial and retail to industrial properties. Only winners of regional awards are eligible for entry in the national awards'

Rhys Taylor & Michelle Tuxford were very proud to receive the inaugural Built in Quality Award in the best Domestic Extension Category for the Yorkshire and Humber region in 2008.

The project for which they were nominated was located in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The design entailed the addition of substantial extensions to the front, side and rear of an existing four bedroom property, creating a six-bedroom detached home, with each bedroom having its own dedicated en-suite bathroom. The design completely reconfigured the internal layout, and the extensions incorporated enlarged living rooms plus a substantial games room and significantly altered the external aesthetics of this prominent dwelling in what many locals consider to be the town's premier suburb.

The Award was announced at a gala dinner held on 6th March 2008 at the Tankersley Manor Hotel, Barnsley that was attended by over 180 guests. The Awards were announced by Mr Paul Everall CBE, Chief Executive of the LABC, with the recipients of the Awards determined by a panel of Building Control personnel selected from each of the six Local Authorities involved.

Taylor Tuxford Associates were pleased to go on to sponsor the Best Large Commercial Building at the 2011 Building Excellence Awards for the North & East LABC Yorkshire Region.

Rhys is pleased and proud to have been invited to stand as Chair of the judging panel for the South Yorkshire and Humber Region each year since 2009 and for the past three years, Rhys has also hosted the awards ceremony, now held at the Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort in Brigg.

Each year, the Awards ceremony event takes the opportunity to raise funds for local charities, by means of a charity golf tournament during the afternoon prior to the awards dinner plus a prize draw during the awards dinner itself.

Past recipients of the proceeds from this event have included the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Humber Rescue. Taylor Tuxford Associates was extremely pleased when it was announced that the recipient charity for 2012 was to be the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice at North Anston near Sheffield. A Director of Taylor Tuxford Associates is an active supporter and fundraiser for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice through their involvement with BluCrew.
